BIOGRAPHY
Michael Whalen has been producing documentaries and television shows since 1994.

His television experience includes writing, producing and directing for such hit series as Fox Television’s “COPS” and
A&E’s “BIOGRAPHY.” He has also produced series’ for The Discovery Channel, NBC, and The Learning Channel (TLC)
including “THE CURSE OF THE GODDESS PELE” for the A&E series Ancient Mysteries; “SKYSCRAPERS” for the TLC
Series Super Structures of the World, and various episodes of “SIGHTINGS” for Paramount Television.

Mr. Whalen has also produced multiple award winning independent documentary films. His first feature documentary,
“ANOTHER FIRST STEP,” received The CINE GOLDEN EAGLE, the BRONZE PLAQUE from the 42nd Annual Columbus
Awards, and was nominated for a student ACADEMY AWARD. Other releases include “FRESH Women,” which was an
official selection at the 2008 Santa Cruz Film Festival
, “A Christmas in Tent City” which premiered at the 2009 Cinequest
Film Festival
, “A Question of Habit” was broadcast on PBS in 2012 and "Gringos at the Gate" was broadcast on ESPN
Deportes in 2013
. His latest work "The Farmer & the Chef" will premiere at the 2014 Cinequest Film Festival.

In addition to his network television and independent film work, Mr. Whalen is an Associate Professor of Communication
at Santa Clara University where he teaches film and television courses.

Michael received a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Directing from The University of California, Los Angeles in
1993 and graduated from Santa Clara University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

He currently resides in San Jose, CA with his wife Nicole and their black lab, Edison.
